Christmas Lights!

Christmas lights

Merry Christmas everyone!

Here is a Christmas project I have been working on…. sort of last minute and will be finished for next Christmas!

I just fell in love with these Christmas light bulbs!

The pattern is by Burlap and Blossom Patterns. She specializes in pieced patterns… no paper piecing!!!

She has lots of cute Christmas blocks!!!

I used my trimmings to make these Sawtooth Stars. I will make those the center.

Then I will add a border… maybe Christmas trees or candy canes…. and then have a large border of these cute Christmas lights. I am sort of making it up as I go. The original pattern in just for the block.

So even though you don’t have time to finish… let Christmas inspire you for next year!

Have a wonderful Christmas Day you guys!

I wanna be where the Quilts are…

Mermaid Quilts

I want to be where the Quilts are…

Well that’s not quite how the line goes… but we all know that is definitely what she was thinking:)

I have a couple of mermaid finishes for you guys today!

Mermaid Quilts!!!

I so enjoyed making this set of twin mermaid quilts…. well they are not exactly twins, but close.

They are for two sisters that I love dearly and have yet to make them a quilt.

Their names are Zoe and Khloe and they also go by the “Think So Twins”…check out their you tube channel!

One reason I picked this fabric for these little girls is that they are African American and I wanted them to see a beautiful mermaid that looks just like them.

I absolutely loved this fabric line…. The castle blueprints!!!

Mermaids, Unicorns, Norwals, Castles…. the cutest!

This fabric line in Magic by Sarah Jane for Michael Miller Fabrics.

I uses one layer cake to make both of these quilts. I just divided the pinks and blues and addes some of my own for borders.

My piecing was simple because I really wanted the fabrics to show.

I just loved the sayings tossed in there.

So grab those Layer Cakes and just start cutting them up!

You might just make something extra special:

Layer Cake Pop- Layer Cake Quilts

Layer Cake Quilt Pattern

This beautiful quilt has finally been quilted!

This was a wonderful layer cake quilt pattern from Fat Quarter Shop that I did way back(omg it was Jan 2017) using their famous series they do called Short Cut Quilts...

And guess what?

It only takes a half a layer cake and a jelly roll for the background…

and it is a FREE PATTERN!

Boom! So easy.

I used a layer cake from Cotton and Steel, Mesa by Alexia Abegg, to make this quilt.

The cream fabric was a nice match up.

I just love how this quilt turned out. The fabrics really pop!

I quilted it using a loop de loop pattern around all the center squares. I think this also helped the fabrics take center stage.

Here is the Fat Quarter Shop’s Short Cut Quilt video you need to make this quilt:

Be sure to watch and give them a like on YouTube.

Here is a link to my previous post…HERE.

I seriously hope you guys give this quilt a try and add it to your list of layer cake quilts!

Happy Quilting Sassites:)

Layer Cake Quilts- Origami Squares

I have a fabulous finish for you guys today!

This quilt is from a book dedicated to all things layer cake!

A Piece of Cake

Sweet and Simple Quilts from Layer Cake Squares

by Peta Peace

We all know we have at least 10 layer cakes piled up waiting for some inspiration….

pattern: “Origami Squares”

I just loved this pattern because it only required one layer cake.

Now… I made this layer cake myself because I wanted these specific colors.

I’m dying to try it again!

I used an all over stipple pattern for quilting and a zig zag stitch to finish off my binding.

And it wouldn’t be finished unless it has a label!

So I added my pre-made labels from ikaprint.com. Love these!

So if you have some layer cakes you wanna dive into… check out this book:

Leave a comment telling me how many layer cakes you have stored up in your sewing room:)

(I have 20 something! Yikes)

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas!… in July!
I am currently working on a Christmas quilt just for me!
I have never actually made a Christmas quilt believe it or not… but have always wanted one. This year in my local guild we decided we would all try to make ourselves a Christmas quilt this year. We started planning it out in January.
First I picked out my pattern….
Just loved this one by Amy Smart of Diary of a Quilter. I love the wonky-ness and whimsical look. I also love the simplicity! Lol.
Then I came across this fabric…
Swell Christmas by Urban Chic. I loved the vintage feel of it. And I liked that it had some pink in it… different feel for a Christmas quilt.
Here is a great FQ bundle you can find at Fat Quarter Shop HERE
Here are a few of my blocks…
I think I should have thought more about contrast in some of these…. I mean I did but I could have used a few solids in here! A little busy feeling for me to just sew all these together. Hey… you learn something from every quilt. I’m thinking of adding some sashing to break it up a little… what do you think? Or should I just see them together and get a beautiful crazy quilt:)
Now is the time to get going on your Christmas quilt! Lots of Beautiful Christmas fabric lines are out and Christmas in July Sales.

So tell me what you’re u think? Are you working on a Christmas project?
Feel free to share on FB or Instagram. Follow me below so I can see:)

Stash Statement Blog Tour

Welcome all you Sassy quilters! Today is the final stop on the Stash Statement Blog Tour.

I was so excited when Kelly@My Quilt Infatuation asked me to participate! This is Kelly Young’s new book called Stash Statement. It is all about improv… and to be honest improv is not something I have done a lot of, but I have a ton of scraps and was ready to try her technique.

I created a quilt from Kelly’s Bonus Pattern called Take Flight.

I decided to make a mini version of this quilt and reversed the improv areas with the solid wings.

Mine finishes at 26 x 28.

I just loved how bright and colorful the improv turned out. It was very easy and free spirited. Playing with all your old scraps reminds you of the quilts you’ve made…and that makes me smile!

I quilted it with an all over stipple… used a light gray on the background areas and a darker gray on the wings. I really wanted you to focus on the piecing and color more that the quilting.

And…. never forget your label!

This is the original version by  Kelly@My Quilt Infatuation.

The original pattern finishes at 55 x 60.

So if you have been dying to give improv a try…this is the book for you. She has an easy approach to making some fun and beautiful quilts!

You can find her book HERE!

Bella Skill Builder…Finishing

I can’t believe we have finished this quilt along! Seems like we just started. The Bella Skill Builder quilt along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop! Has been a great quilt along. I was very impressed with their quilt kit and each months instructions were perfect. I love that they almost always provided another option if you didn’t have the ruler.

Bella Skill Builder
Finishing!!
We made it!
Slow and steady we finished the race… I have to say I really love this quilt.
All the detailed piecing and the fabric choices really came together nicely..
I really pushed myself to get this top quilted! One so I could show you guys and Two… if it ends up the finished tops pile it takes me forever to get to it.
I chose to do and all over stipple design for my quilt. It’s not perfect, but it’s done!
I even remembered to get my tag on there! Love these.
Hope you guys have had a great time following along! I loved seeing all the different color combos people chose.
While this quilt definitely stretched my skills… it was worth it! The finished quilt is stunning!
