WIP Wednesday

So what am I working on this week…

Mostly the catch up blocks for The Virtual Quilting Bee @Diary of a Quilter, finishing the FMQ on my sunbonnet sue, and binding another quilt.

Busy, busy, busy! I should have a good finish for Friday:)

This is a pic of another quilt I started about a year ago!!! Yikes. It is a baby quilt that is hand pieced and will be hand quilted. I wanted bragging rights to say I hand pieced at least one:)

If I can get it done I will enter it in the State Fair this September…who knows, it could happen.

This is a Tumbling Block pattern and was one of my Grandmother Sassy’s favorites for babies, I think because it is too difficult to do much larger!!!

I try to work on this one when I have down time or am away from the machine. Actually, I just carry this project around with me, but don’t actually work on it,Lol. It just sits in its little project bag all lonely…glaring at me! The thrill is gone(insert BB King music), but I will keep dragging it around until I get my hand-piecing mojo back. I will do at least one block today just for spite!

Happy Quilting and See ya Friday!

Love it but can’t even imagine how difficult by hand! Wow! It’s gorgeous though-can’t wait to see that one completed. :)

It isn’t too bad actually, just time consuming and gives me hand cramps! A lot less hiccups with no machine:)

  2. Oh, this looks great! And all done by hand, wow!

  3. your Tumbling Block quilt is just stunning

  4. This is a beautiful piece of work! So artistic and I love it’s dimensional look! Wow.
It made me want to make one just like it.
Is there a pattern for it? I know you wrote “Tumbling Block”, but did you have a layout plan of fabrics to know how to piece, or did you do it by “eye”?
What line of fabric is it?
Hope you finish it for the Fair!

      Hey there Debi!
Thanks, the fabric is City Block by Benartex and the pattern is called Building Blocks by Jenny Beyer(I got it out of an American Patchwork and Quilting magazine). I used pieces of a jelly roll to cut diamonds for the pattern.

      • Thanks for the info!
I wrote it in my trusty little notebook and will hunt it down! Whew…it might be awhile before I attempt it because right now, I have “so many pieces on the cutting board” (is that the quilting terminology for ‘too many irons in the fire’?).
My fabric order arrived yesterday for my version of the Virtual Quilting Bee…so see you Friday!!

  5. Hand piecing too! Good for you! I love the Tumbling Block pattern! And your colour choice is perfect! (You are a no-reply blogger on my blog, so I’m replying here- thanks for following me on Blog Lovin! Welcome! My hand piecing project is slow going, but its not a race, is it!!)

  6. Tumbling blocks are ambitious by hand! Good luck! I have hand-pieced and quilted a few from start to finish, and it is a wonderful feeling…

  7. it’s beautiful! great hand-piecing. tumbling blocks are on my list of “somedays”

  8. love, love, love!! (and I’m very impressed that you’re doing it by hand!) :)

  9. New follower here: found you at WIP Freshly Pieced.

I made one of these about 20 years ago. Hand pieced and quilted. That thing was a booger to make (I had no idea what I was doing,) and it was a little “off-square” shall we say, when I got done, but I did get done. And then gave it to a cousin for his new baby. Truly one of a kind. I may hand-piece another sometime, but I don’t think it will be this pattern. Yours is so lovely … and even! ;-)

  10. What a fun quilt! I love the fabrics you chose, they work so well for the tumbling blocks!

  11. Those tumbling blocks look amazing, great job so far! Really pretty colours and you’ll be so proud of yourself when it’s all done. :o)

  12. Love the tumbling blocks

  13. A tumbling block quilt is on my list of patterns that I want to make. I love the colors in yours!

  14. What a fun color combo for that baby quilt!

  15. Wow that is really really adorable! I give you sooo much credit for hand piecing it and quilting it. That takes a ton of time and patience. I hope you get to keep it so you can enjoy it!

  16. Jean McMurry says:

That is the best looking baby quilt. You will finish it, one stormy dreary day when you can’t do anything to raise your spirits, And then the sun will shine and you will be so happy you did it.

  17. I wish I had the patience for a tumbling block quilt – I love the finished look!

  18. I love the tumbling block effects, so impressive :o)

  19. Looking good!! I made a mess out of some tumbling blocks so I get how tough they can be. :)

  20. Amy! So glad we found each others’ blogs! I adore this pattern and I wish I had the stamina to make it! It’s going to be amazing and I really think you should keep it with all the hard work you’ve done.
