Tumbler quilt

So, I finally got that binding on and finished this way too old UFO! That’s an Un-Fininshed Object for you newbies! I would say most quilters have a few of these, some of us way too many. My goal this year is to wrap up some of these lonely, abandoned quilt projects!

This quilt was super easy to make. I used the Tumbler Template by Natalie Dawn that I purchased at Missouri Star Quilt Company. You get yourself one of these and a charm pack or two and you are good to go. I added a nice wide border to give it some size(getting a little lazy at the end) and voila!  This fabric is Perennial by Benartex and some pink that I had to match. It was fun to quilt because you could follow the lines of the blocks and zig zag your way along. I did the binding from some leftover green that I had in my stash using this tutorial. I  doing the binding, that’s right…I’m wierd I know:)

Do you like the green binding? It was a toss up between green or pink. I haven’t decided on a name for this quilt. I would love to hear your ideas. So let ’em rip!

Oh yeah, I almost forgot…How are you liking The Virtual Quilting Bee? Share your blocks on this Flickr page I created:

  1. I love that pattern! (And I totally understand the wide border for a quick finish).

I like the green binding it kind of plays foo some of the blocks. I have about 6 or 8 UFO’s and I have been trying to shame myself into finishing at least 3 of them this year, I share your pain about UFO’s. You could call this quilt “bottoms up”.

Bottoms up! Cool name, it does look like some upside down glasses. I never noticed that! You guys are definitely more creative than me with the quilt names.

  3. This one is just beautiful. Love the green binding, gives it a great look.

  4. I too, Love the green border and your quilt and quilting are just beautiful

  5. How about ” strawberry smoothy” for the name?
The colours are so soothing and soft. It is a wonderful quilt!

  6. Sewsassy says:

Lookin good .. How bout.. Beauty and the beast… A beast to finish but a beauty none the less :) …or pocket full of posies ? Maybe the pink panther

  7. I love to do binding too! :-) It’s a lovely quilt. I would’ve probably gone for a darker green on the binding because I like a firm frame on a quilt but the one you used makes it softer. The shapes remind me of thimbles. Well done!

  8. I love the effect the wide border gives – a perfect finish. Thanks so much for linking up :)

  9. This is so inspiring! UFO + Scrappy = LOVE

  10. Oooh I see strawberries and cream and a bottle of wine in that lovely basket, then I’ll just lie down on the quilt beside the river and read a book as I listen to the birds…bliss!! Beautiful quilt – how long ago did you start it?

April 2011!!! Wowser, I had to look that one up. Longer than I thought. I like the name strawberries and cream too! Lots of good choices here:)

  13. I think the green looks great. Tumblers make such cute quilts!

  16. I really like this quilt, especially the wide border with the quilting stitches showing so vividly on it. I don’t know why we don’t think of this more often, emphasizing a colored, pieced center, yet, also emphasizing the beautiful quilting.
I like the green binding. It pulls the color from the center to finish the total picture of the quilt. It also reverts my eyes back to the center design. Consider “Tumbling comfort” for a cute name.
I’m working with charm packs, too, and love MSQC as my source.. They have wonderful fabrics.
My focus right now is FMMQ, using Eva Larkin’s books for guides. Her Easy & Fun FMQ designs are awesome! I purposely focus on the 5″ squares, keeping my area small, until I improve this beautiful skill.
    Have a blessed day!

  17. I have interest in this, cheers.
