Starlight, Starbright…

Today was another snow day/sew day here in VA. Downer in that I do need to actually go to work, but always glad to get some extra sew time:)

I have been following along with Melissa @Happy Quilting and participating in her Star Light Star Bright Quilt-a-Long. I just couldn’t resist this fun quilt design! Since my plate was pretty full I did the one block design as a baby quilt. These blocks have lots of pieces, so I’m glad I did! It went together pretty simple aside from one cutting error that led to a design change:), but I think it works… no extra fabric so it has too!

Here is a little show of all our steps we have completed.

SLSBfabrics

Fabric cutting. I am using Gray Matters by Jackie Savage McFee for Camelot Fabrics. I have been dying to do a gray/yellow combo.

SLSBgeese

Flying Geese.

SLSBhst

Half Square Triangles… lots of these! I laid mine out on the design wall to get a feel for the quilt. HERE is a tutorial for how to make your own design wall!

SLSBcenters

Block centers. Love this star!

SLSBsides

Block sides. I did not anticipate all the crazy paisley directions.

SLSBcorners

Block corners. Love these polka dots:)

SLSBtop

Finished top with borders. What do you think….gray or yellow binding?

I have a couple weeks to quilt it and get it in the Grand Prize Linky. Trying to not wait till the last minute on this one. It’s not too late to join in!!! You have until April 2nd. So if you are speedy, head on over to Happy Quilting and catch up!

Here is a pic of a bigger quilt with this pattern:

Be sure to check back in on Friday for the start of the Triangle Quilt Along! Not too late to join in:)

  1. As it’s a baby quilt, I’d go for the yellow border. Those two colours are wonderful together and your quilt shines!

  2. Why not a grey and yellow binding? I think piecing the binding would work for this quilt. It’s adorable, by the way.

  3. looking good! It’s hard to resist a gray and yellow quilt; I didn’t even notice the different directions of paisley until you mentioned them. I’d vote for yellow binding if you go all solid, but I think Sarah’s suggestion above of a pieced binding would work great as well.

  4. Another great block! Love the gray and yellow combination!

  5. I love the colors you are using! So bright and beautiful!

Your fabrics are gorgeous as is your block!……WOW!

Liking your block. I was crazy and did 9 blocks. I’m currently quilting it. It was a bit above my ability level, but hopefully it looks good after I quilt it.

  8. I love your colors. Love the block too!

  9. the grey and yellow work so well together and love the block

  10. Love this block Paula — your color choices are fantastic. I think a Yellow binding would look beautiful — but Gray would weather the “dirt” storm better ?? Can’t wait to see your finish. Thanks for the inspiration!

  11. Love, love, love it! I would use scrappy binding with the leftovers! I have the same design wall-really comes in handy :-)

  12. Beautiful! I’d go with a yellow binding for a baby quilt. Plus, it’s the color of sunshine and maybe it will hurry spring along!

  13. I am always partial to yellow, so I would go with a yellow binding, especially for a baby. I did the 3×3 quilt, and there were so many little squares!

  14. This is such a cute block! I’m living vicariously through you, since I really wanted to do this one but didn’t have the time! I like the idea of a yellow and grey binding – scrappy.

  15. It came out so adorable!!! I love how happy it is in those wonderful grey’s and yellows ;) Great job on all of your precision piecing, the points look awesome!! Can’t wait to see how you quilt it up, and I am all for yellow bindings, they just are happy!

  16. Great little quilt Paula! Love the colors. I ended up buying some of the yellow and Gray paisley when I saw it earlier in your process. Have fun quilting!

  17. Still loving the grey and yellow! This is going to be a gorgeous quilt.

  18. This looks great! It will make a perfect baby quilt.

It looks beautiful! I would go with a yellow binding but either would look great!

  20. yellow and grey, love those colors. the quilt along is fun, i’m doing some low volume backgrounds for the first time. directional prints make it fun, i found the same thing as you did with the paisley, didn’t anticipate the changing directions, would have been too challenging if i had discovered it early. but i love surprises. good luck.

  21. You are on a roll!! I vote gray. :)

  22. love love love the yellow and grey. I vote yellow on the binding, finish is off with a halo of sunshine.

  23. That looks awesome! I was tempted to join this QAL, but managed to resist. Somehow I need to find the willpower to finish a few things before starting more! I think a grey border would frame it nicely.
