Star Light Star Bright Finish!

Sunny

Phew! Just finished up my Star Light Star Bright Quilt! Just in time for the parade over at Happy Quilting on Tuesday. Late night finishes don’t make the best photos but here it is:)  I love Melissa’s quilt alongs and this one was no different. I decided to go with the one block design for this quilt.

It finishes at 35″ x 35″.

I quilted this quilt using Aurifil 50wt. 100% cotton thread in white.

For the quilting I used my walking foot and did only straight line designs. No real planning, just free style moving around the quilt where the lines lead me…pretty fun that way! My original plan was to do a giant spiral, but waiting until the last minute, I decided to just do what I knew. I have yet to try the spiral design! Next time:)

I machine bound this quilt. You can find my binding tutorial HERE.

I loved this fun chevron print for the back!

  1. Love the colors

  2. Looks great! Love the colors! Paula, how many hours a week do you spend sewing? Do you sew during the week or just weekends? You accomplish so much each week!

Haha, I do sew a lot…not married and no kids so I do have more free time when I’m home:) A few nights a week and a lot of my weekends!

  3. I love the yellow and grey star! Very nice pattern! Mind if I copy? I have been wanting to do a black and white and red quilt for some time but haven’t found the right pattern.. this is it!!!

  4. Where would I find tahe pattern? Love the concept of one block quilt. I am ready to use my new Pfaff for some fancy stitch quilting. Hard to do that with these twin sized quilts! Stitch in ditch around sashing and borders…a tad boring. Help me break into something different, please.

  6. Great job! It looks awesome.

  7. The grey and yellow look lovely! I’ll have to use those colors–SOON!

  8. Hi!!!!! It looks like Spring!!!!! Very pretty!!!! Love all the quilting!!!!!

  9. It looks like a breath of fresh air and a little sunshine thrown in on this gloomy day here! I do all my bindings the same way as you except I use a ditch foot for the final step.

  10. This quilt is lovely. Yellow and grey is one of my favorite color combinations.

  11. Oh, it turned out lovely! The colors are great, yellow is the best color of them all! Although I did finish my SLSB quilt top, I now truly dislike the way it looks, so I’ve folded it up and put it on the shelf for a while. I’ll see how I feel about it in a few weeks and decide if I want to quilt it up.

  12. It turned out just fabulous!!! I love, love love it!!! Great job on finishing it all up. The straight stitching just finished it perfect!! What a ray of sunshine this is going to be ;)

  13. I love your colours; it’s fabulous. Absolutely right for Spring.

  14. It is very pretty Paula. I especially love the color combination. Nice job!

  15. I am in love with it! Now I want to make one! Beautifully done!

  16. It’s beautiful! I’m not going to get mine finished in time for the parade. Love your quilting – very simple! I think mine is too busy….oh well….ran out of thread and time…..

  17. love it paula! what a great finish for a baby quilt. I’m going to have to check out your machine binding tute because I just did 3 baby quilts that way and it’s killing me!!! I hate feeling like an amateur all over again and messing up an otherwise nice quilt. yours looks great. =)

  18. That is so beautiful!

  19. Super Awesome Paula! I totally dig the straight lines. Spirals are cool and all, but i far prefer this. :) Looking forward to tomorrow. :)

  20. A happy finish!!! :) The yellow/grey combo is lovely. And the straight-line quilting really works on this one. I’m so jealous of your gorgeous binding… I keep practicing, but I’m just not there yet. Beautiful work! :)

  21. This one slid past me. The front is great, but I LOVE how the quilting looks on the back! That’s fabulous.

  22. I love this finish! I’m terrified of yellow (I have literally one piece of yellow yardage in my stash) but this makes me think that maybe I should give it a shot!

  23. How pretty and bright that is! Just like a burst of Spring, which we are waiting for here! :-) Great job!

  24. I love those colours! Your machine binding looks so neat and tidy. I haven’t tried it yet because I’m a little scared it will look awful, especially the first few times.

  25. Such a fabulous finish! Love how you chose to quilt this and that you enjoyed the process of quilting free-style. The idea of free-style quilting just makes me smile. Best, Kate

  26. very pretty, love the colors and the quilting is great

  27. Love the fabrics, yellow and gray is one of my favorite combos!! You did a lovely job Paula! :)
