Sassy Tip of The Week-104

Rule #1: do not bleed on the quilt!

So what do you do when you’re a rule breaker?

When removing blood stains use your own saliva….i know, i know! It is a little gross, but the enzymes in your saliva can best break down your own blood.

If that is out of the question..try dabbing hydrogen peroxide. You can use a q-tip for either method.

Want to know the other rules?

#2: Measure twice, cut once.

#3: It’s not a mistake…it’s a creative opportunity:)

#4: There are NO Quilt Police.

#5: Rules? There are Rules?

 On the quilting front…

This week I am finishing up a pair of twin quilts and just need to get some pics! Coordinating teal and orange backings with some striped binding.

  1. Blood on your quilt? Use saliva to get rid of it. Excellent, it works every time. But you have to be quick. I don’t go looking for a Q-tip, just pick up a few of the rejected short threads (quilters always have threads lying around), chew on them for a few seconds and then rub the spill. The spilt blood disappears without a trace.

  2. Thanks for the spit tip ;) I had never heard that before. LOVE your blocks! I am starting a new quilt soon made of yellows (dominant) orange and teal with some pink thrown in for good measure haha) and that Broken Spiderweb block is looking like a definite possibility! :)

  3. Great string blocks and great tips! I learned about the saliva a long time ago when I was hand quilting. It works!! Thanks for sharing.

  4. Hello there, I’m new to your blog (I’m also in the Star Light QAL) and I’m relatively new to quilting as well. I just wanted to say thanks for the Craftsy tip, I had no idea that class existed. I need all the help and advice I can get! Thanks, have a gorgeous day!

  5. Love the orange and teal! Also like your new updated picture on your sidebar. Very cute. ~Shari

  6. Jennifer says:

Thanks for the tip! Love those quilts, can’t wait to see them finished.

  7. So pretty! String blocks are on my bucket list of blocks to make. And, I can’t wait to see the reveal on the quilts. They are so bright and cheerful looking from what I can see. And, it’s so funny…I was just telling someone that tip about getting blood out of a quilt the other day. It does work!

  8. Love your broken spider web! Visiting from NTT

  9. I so wish I didn’t need to know how to get blood out of a quilt, but as I always say with all great quilts – there will be blood and there will be tears!

Love the new picture, you look great!

  10. I try not to brake rule one :-) Great tips!

  11. I loved the Craftsy BOM 2012! I started the 2013 but I didn’t like it as much.

  12. good tip to know, Paula! I never knew that about saliva/blood. Your string blocks look awesome. I always seem to end up with strings in my scrap baskets since I use the bigger pieces in the backings of my quilts, so I love a good string block!

Thanks for linking to Needle and Thread Thursday!

  13. Great tip about the saliva, I did not know that!
