Friday Finish- Tangerine Style!

TangerineTango1

Tangerine Tango, 50″ x 62″

Two finishes to share on this fabulous Friday:) Tangerine Tango…

and

Tangerine Squared…

TangerineSquared3

Tangerine Squared, 37″ x 48″

Both of these quilts are made completely of HST’s.  I started making these quilts using Kelly@My Quilt Infatuations tutorial HERE, but got side tracked and just made a bunch of HST’s and went for it! So I ended up with enough for two quilts, bonus:) Tangerine Tango is throw sized and Tangerine Squared is a smaller baby quilt.

Tangerine Tango is a scrappy chevron layout and I am not sure what the Tangerine Squared is….sunshine and shadow? or square in a square?

I tried to take some serene pics …. No, I did not glue this quilt to the fence:) It was so windy! and cold!

I used Aurifil thread in a teal and orange 50wt. cotton from the Camille Roskelley, Simplify collection. The colors in this collection just seem to match everything I can come up with! The quilting is all straight line designs using a walking foot on my machine.

The fabrics are from a bundle of Fandango by Kate Spain for Moda with a little Fig Tree thrown in there and Denyse Schmidt for the backings.

and the backs…

Sorry these are so wrinkly! Being folded in the car all day…bad idea. I took these on the way home from work:)

Yes, I probably look like a crazy quilt lady taking all these pics at various roadside stops! This was at a local wildlife area so no trespassing:)

the binding…

This fabric bundle had two different stripe prints so I used one on each quilt.

TangerineTango3

I really love stripes for binding!

I used this machine binding tutorial HERE.

Oh, and I finally got me some official labels for my quilts:) Now I have no excuses to not at least get these on there.

They are from ikaprint. You can find their shop on Etsy HERE.

  1. Oh Gosh Paula. You are such a prolific quilter, I envy you your time management …Love love love these quilts and the serene colours that create so much Pop! I really thought you were taking all these gorgeous photos in your own backyard. They look just fabulous

  2. Paula, I really like the pattern of this quilt. Is this your pattern? Do I need to buy it? Are there any etiquette rules that says I can’t play around with this pattern for baby rag quilt?

    • sassyquilter says:

Not my pattern, the link I shared where I found it was a free tutorial. So play around all you like and I would love to see what you come up with :-)

  3. Oh yeah, I forgot thanks for posting the craftsy free quilting class. I’m on that. Your triangle quilt will be my first real quilt. At least that’s what I call it. I’ve only made rag baby quilts. Thanks again.

  4. Hi!!! Very pretty quilts!!!! The quilting looks great too!!!!

  5. so beautiful :-)

  6. Oh Paula – these are gorgeous! I love Fandango fabrics and love love love them in this quilt pair! Thankyou so much for sharing – lovely colour and design inspiration! Keera x

  7. They are both so pretty!. I love the fabrics/colors you used – very soothing.

  8. Beautiful work! I have a soft spot for stripes for binding. Polka dots are good, too. My absolute favorite? Diagonal stripes. I just love those. I have to make over 300 half-square triangle blocks to overcome my dislike of them. Once I got my Tucker Trimmer, I didn’t know how I managed to make 300 without it. Thanks for a great share!

  9. I love the colors! I am usually to matchy matchy when I make a quilt. And I also love to use stripes for the binding. The add a fun touch to the quilt.

  10. The diamond one made me literally gasp out loud – sooooo beautiful. I love these – you did an awesome job. And YAY for labels, those are the same ones I use – so happy to have my name on my quilts.

Great finishes! The quilts are so different yet so alike. When I saw Tangerine squared – I didn’t look at the pattern, I looked at it and thought, “It’s a rectangle!” Then I looked at the pattern made by the HST! I guess my math major is still overwhelming in my life. My family is so math/science oriented that it’s not funny. I just talked to my daughter this week. Her second grader son was slightly deficient in reading at the beginning of the year and now he’s at grade level. He’s always been super at math. His mom (my daughter) is a high school math teacher. Her husband is a complete politician to me. He works for a school district and spends lots of time at the state senate and goes to DC once each year. So, for not being directly in politics, he is!!! I certainly can see some of his characteristics in my grandson and I see many more of my daughter’s. Since he’s working on his PhD and not home at much with the boys, more of the homework duty falls to her. I go visit once a year and I get to help with homework that week(s) so she gets a break. My grandson wanted me to do his homework for him last year and I won’t do it. I told him I would sit with him, I would help him, and I would not do it for him. He finally told me he was lazy. My daughter told me to walk away and she told him if he didn’t do it, he didn’t go to baseball practice. That was the incentive he needed and she finished it with him. I think she didn’t want my grandson and me to have a big clash over it! She’d rather he’d be mad at her than me. All that said, my list of quilts I want to make is growing and growing. However, these would be great to remember to put together from the cutoff HST that occur like when you are making snowballs, etc. One could even try rows or columns of different sizes. For those of us, that don’t make a lot of quilts, we could combine our HSTs to make come great charity quilts. I’m always looking for ways to use my leftovers. No, I’m not into upcycling. I came from a family where for a long time we had to use ALL we had. We were blessed to have all our needs, just not many extras.

  12. They are very cute!

  13. Margaret says:

2 beauties here, half square triangles are amazing as they produce so many wonderful designs

  14. Hey Paula, great finishes. Love the fabrics. Also just love HST quilts. So versatile.

  29. Great finishes! I especially like getting the back view of the quilting. :)

  30. Congratulations on the 2 finishes!! How fun to keep making HSTs and end up with enough to make 2 adorable quilts!

  31. Those hst’s are a lot of work! And to end up with enough for two quilts? You must have been enjoying the process! Both are fabulous finishes, Paula. And I love the fabrics and palette you chose, as well as using the stripes for binding. Great pics!

  32. Lovely finishes Paula! Love the blue and orange color combo! I am pretty obsessed with HST’s and love all the different designs you can come up with! Thanks for the inspiration!
