Design Wall in action!

Design Wall in action

Finished up my Triangle quilt top this weekend and put my new design wall into action. This thing was a life saver and I have no idea why I waited so long to make one! Here is the tutorial on how to make your own Design Wall that I shared earlier. Easy and cheap people:)

The fabrics are Simply Style by V&Co. just the blue and green shades though. Can’t wait to get this sandwiched and quilted. If you know me, it may take a while to get that done:) I like to save up a few and have a sandwiching party.

Design Wall for quilting

What to know about these triangles….wayyyy  stretchy. I wish I had starched my fabric before I cut it instead of after cutting the triangle. A little over anxious to get started on this one. Better late than never!

I have already started my next project which was inspired by Kelly@MyQuiltInfatuation. She used a double slice quilt pattern and said it was quick and I was looking for just that. Here are the gorgeous fabrics I ordered from Moona Fabrics on Etsy. Piper by Dear Stella is the fabric line. Love, love , love these and they weren’t easy to find(been out a while). Sue@Moona Fabrics was so quick to answer my questions and help me get the bundle I was looking for… and they arrived lickety-split! You guys should definitely go and check them out here. Lots of yummy fabrics over there and Sue is kind enough to offer us a coupon code for free shipping on domestic orders over $30! Expires 11/1/13 so you better snap it up quick!

  1. Your triangle quilt top is sew pretty! Love the colour combo you chose. Great job, Paula! And I totally hear you on the design wall. Thanks to your tutorial, I bought a flannel backed table cloth and, although my wall is not portable, am so happy to use it! PS. Those fabrics are gorgeous!

  2. I love your use of simply style – a great quilt finish!!! You have probably shared before but what tool do you use to cut your triangles? Do you have a good way to cut them?

I make my design boards the same way….I made three for a presentation last week so I could put things on display – nice easy portable :-)

I used a creative grids 60° triangle ruler.
I cut 6 inch strips first and then subcut into the triangles. I will show some pics when I show my final quilt. Hope that helps :-)

  3. Sooooo funny, I’m working on a triangle quilt right now and have a piper quilt in the cue to be basted! Great minds…

  4. Your triangle quilt is sooo pretty! Can’t wait to see what you make with your new fabrics, going to check out that shop right now

  5. Love love love those reds Paula! Can’t wait to see what you do with them :) The triangles look great too, worth persevering with eh?! I know what you mean though – I’m making a bunch of flying geese at the moment…aaaargh! Getting the points all nicely lined up down the centre is not the same as getting them all nicely lined up along the edges as well! x

Definitely worth trying, just use lots of starch! Love flying geese, but You are right, keeping them square and keeping the points are two different things :-)

  6. Looks like you handled those bias edges well! Early in my quilting career (as in earlier this year) I machine-pieced hexies and trimmed them into square blocks for a grandmother’s flower garden (not how I would do it now that I know how to appliqué!) and they stretched so bad! My poor borders are so very wonky on that quilt. It’s still pretty though, as quilts always are. :)

  7. Just Beautiful Paula – Love the colors!

  15. Oh gosh, I love your quilt! The colors and design are so wonderful. Haha – makes me feel a bit overwhelmed as I am a very basic (kind of new) quilter. Anyway, it’s really nice! :)
